A farewell from our Founder

By Madeline Price (she/they)

I must admit, I have spent a lot of time procrastinating writing this blog post.

Not because I did not care to say farewell to the incredible supporters of the One Woman Project, but rather, because I was not yet ready.

Since founding the One Woman Project in mid-2013, the past eight years have brought me the happiest, most fulfilling and exciting times of my life. It has been the greatest joy to see the organisation grow from where we started, to flourishing into what it has become today.

Where once it was just me, standing at the front of a room at Visible Ink, taking to my close friends about feminism, the organisation has since spanned across the nation (and internationally), delivering sell-out events and Australia’s largest feminist festival, talking to young people in their classrooms (and, during COVID-19, in their homes) about issues of gender justice they are facing today, and publishing the most radically feminist online and print content that I have seen in my lifetime. The past eight years, have seen the organisation deliver five Rural Roadtrips, 191 in-school workshops, and 122 events and seminars, reaching nearly 40, 000 people.

And none of that was because of me.

I always say that the only thing I ever created within the organisation was our first ever Seminar Series back at the start of 2014. Everything else – from our Rural Roadtrips, to our Engagement & Outreach events, to our In-School Workshops, to our Brisbane Feminist Festival, to RARA and Mudhoney magazines and our eBooks, to every Seminar Series since, were created by others in the organisation who had an idea, a dream, a vision.

The One Woman Project, everything we stand for, everything we have achieved, and everything we have become, has been a collective effort – a collective effort that I am so incredibly proud to have been a part of.

And I cannot wait to see where the organisation goes from here.

Thank you, to all of our volunteers, Board members, participants and supporters, who have each made my time with the organisation the most magical time for me.

And, as my gift to you, here is a selection of some of the things I am most proud of us for achieving.

With love, joy and solidarity,

Madeline
