Five Questions for a Feminist: Mietta Tourell

Throughout 2017, we are going to introduce our followers to the One Woman Project team by asking them five feminist-related questions. Here we have Mietta Tourell.

What is your name and your role with the One Woman Project?

Mietta Tourell - Chief Financial Officer of the One Woman Project.

What does feminism mean to you?

Feminism to me means fighting against stereotypes of gender and sexuality. For me it means equality for all and the fight to see everyone as a human being and not treat them according to bias or social sigma.

What personal experience drew you to feminism? Why did you become a feminist?

Growing up trying to fit into the stereotype of what a female should look like, act like, dress like etc.

I do not want people to suffer through the same experiences as I did; believing they have to do something because society says it’s what they should do according to a stereotype.

What is your biggest focus within the movement towards global gender equality?

General stereotypes about how anyone should look and act and how we are treated because we have acted/dress/expressed ourselves etc in a certain way.

I.e. A women dressing provocatively is asking to be raped and many other numerous examples.

If there was one feminist resource that you wish everyone would read or view what would it be?

The Beauty Myth by Naomi Wolf.
